CAG report on Delhi's scrapped excise policy reveals Rs 2,026 cr loss to AAP govt; BJP & Congress react
A CAG report has alleged a revenue loss of ₹2,026 crore due to irregularities in Delhi's now-scrapped liquor policy, sparking political controversy. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of corruption, while Delhi Congress Presiden...

The said CAG report has not been officially released as yet but its purported content have been reported in some sections of the media.
BJP president J P Nadda claimed that the CAG report on the Delhi government's excise police has exposed intentional lapses, leading to a loss of Rs 2,026 crore loss to the exchequer. Nadda said on X, "Intoxicated by power, high on misgovernance. 'AAP'DA model of loot in full display and that too on something like liquor."
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, CAG has revealed the whole story of the corruption of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who has played the role of a broker by destroying the happiness of Delhi.
This is the same CAG report that Arvind Kejriwal used to wave in 2013 to fight against Sheila Dikshit and today the same CAG report has declared Arvind Kejriwal corrupt, he said.
"According to the CAG report, it was a well-planned conspiracy... Government rules were disregarded every time... Why is Arvind Kejriwal not tabling the CAG report in the Assembly?," said Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva.
"We have been continuously saying that the CAG report should be tabled as soon as possible. I have also received some information from social media, according to which the loss of Rs 2,000 crores to the ex-checker has been directly caused by this liquor deal," said Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav.
"I am also saddened by the fact that during this time there was also a winter session, should this report not have been tabled there? This makes one thing clear. There was some deal behind all this due to which there was a delay in bringing the CAG report. I want to ask what was the deal between AAP and BJP that there was so much delay in presenting the CAG report."
CAG has said that there has been a scam of Rs 2,000 crores in the liquor policy, said Congress leader and candidate from New Delhi assembly seat, Sandeep Dikshit.
"Now it is clear that he (Arvind Kejriwal) has done wrong... He has emptied the government treasury. If Rs 2,000 crores have been spent in 6 months due to the liquor policy. If that scheme was still running, we would have suffered a loss of Rs 10,000-12,000 crores."
The Delhi government implemented the policy on November 17, 2021 but scrapped it at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption.
Under the excise policy, the city was divided into 32 zones in which licences were given through open tenders for opening 849 liquor stores.
The Delhi government decided to allow opening of two liquor vends in wards having non-conforming areas, which are largely unauthorised colonies.
