BJP steps up fight in Delhi, connects with poor voters and allies
The BJP has launched a mass contact program in Delhi targeting Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seats and slum areas, aiming to wrest control from the AAP. State BJP leaders are conducting extensive visits, criticizing the AAP's unfulfilled promises...

BJP's primary focus is a dozen seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and those with sizable inhabitants in jhuggi-jhopri clusters.
In 2020, AAP won all the 12 SC reserved assembly seats in Delhi, and the party is considered to have a strong backing in the slum areas. The BJP wants to challenge AAP in its stronghold, leading to the roll out of the extensive contact programme.
State BJP leaders will make extensive visits in these areas and target the AAP government for not delivering on its promises. The first phase of the mass contact programme is planned for completion by this weekend.
"I have personally visited six districts of Delhi and have conducted organisational meetings as well as public contact programs. By the end of this week, we will cover all the districts of Delhi," Atul Garg, BJP Delhi election co-incharge told ET.
Garg has also been attending 'Samvad' programmes with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and housing colonies in the city, joined by other party leaders.
The BJP is also planning to take along NDA allies and give a few seats to NDA parties in the upcoming Delhi polls.
In 2020, the BJP gave two seats-Burari and Sangam Vihar-to JDU and the alliance is likely to continue in the upcoming election.
Sources in JDU told ET that currently, there is discussion on the number of seats it will contest but it is willing to ally with the BJP for the Delhi polls.
Two other NDA allies from Bihar, LJP (Ram Vilas) and HAM are also willing to contest the assembly elections in alliance with the BJP. Both these parties are also considering the SC reserved seats for fielding their candidates.
A final decision on the alliance will be taken by senior BJP leaders early next month, according to party sources.
