Delhi Election Early Trends

The saffron party was leading on 45 seats, as of 11:30 am.

At 10:30 am, BJP took a wide leap from 24 seats to 40 seats. The party has been maintaining a comfortable lead since the counting began.

The saffron party was ahead of the competitors in key areas like Ballimaran, Kirari and New Delhi at 9:30 but the trends reversed soon.

The BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attacked the AAP over the alleged toxicity in the Yamuna River, while the AAP highlighted its "performance" in education and health during its eleven-year tenure. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also attacked Kejriwal in his rallies in the run-up to the polls.

Key constituencies included New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was contesting against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP's Parvesh Verma.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was facing a contest against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba. The campaign saw sharp exchanges between leaders of the three parties.

The postal ballots were counted first and the process of counting of votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) began 30 minutes later.

Since 2019, VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) slips from five randomly selected polling stations per assembly constituency are matched with the EVM count for greater transparency.
