After Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah accused Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of splurging on his official residence when he was the Delhi chief minister, instead of focusing on the welfare of the citizens.

Shah alleged that the AAP government had denied development to Delhi's citizens for the past 10 years even as Kejriwal focused on building a "sheeshmahal" for himself and indulging in luxuries he had criticised before joining politics.

Shah was speaking in New Delhi Saturday at the inauguration of a new working women's hostel block, 'Sushma Bhawan', in memory of Sushma Swaraj, the former Delhi CM and external affairs minister who passed away in 2019. He said Swaraj will always be a source of inspiration for empowering, organising and motivating women across the nation.

The home minister also virtually inaugurated a veterinary hospital at Moti Bagh in Delhi.

Referring to Kejriwal, Shah claimed that the AAP leader had built a ₹45 crore "sheeshmahal" on 50,000 square yards using people's money and said the former CM owed the people of Delhi an explanation for this expense.

Shah alleged that Kejriwal as CM was involved in multiple scandals, including the liquor scam as well as corruption linked to mohalla clinics, fixing of medicine prices, solar streetlights, CCTV purchases and bus procurement. But he said the most significant scandal was the construction of a residence for himself as the CM.

Kejriwal can level accusations against the BJP, but ultimately, it will be up to the people to decide, he said, adding that the AAP must answer to the public regarding the "sheeshmahal".
