The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday revealed its first list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, expected to be held in early 2025.

The list includes several former BJP and Congress leaders who recently joined AAP. Brahm Singh Tanwar, Anil Jha, and BB Tyagi from the BJP, along with Chaudhry Zubair Ahmad, Veer Dhingan, and Sumesh Shokeen from the Congress, have been given tickets for the elections.

AAP Candidates Announced

Here are the names of the candidates and their constituencies:

  • Chhatarpur: Brahm Singh Tanwar
  • Kirari: Anil Jha
  • Vishwas Nagar: Deepak Singla
  • Rohtas Nagar: Sarita Singh
  • Laxmi Nagar: BB Tyagi
  • Badarpur: Ram Singh Netaji
  • Seelampur: Chaudhry Zubair Ahmad
  • Seemapuri: Veer Dhingan
  • Ghonda: Gaurav Sharma
  • Karawal Nagar: Manoj Tyagi

AAP's Strong Track Record

In the last Delhi Assembly elections held in February 2020, AAP won a landslide victory, securing 62 out of 70 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed just 8 seats, while Congress failed to win any. This victory led to Arvind Kejriwal continuing as chief minister.

Challenges for AAP

Despite its strong start, AAP faced significant hurdles during its term. In March 2024, Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. Later, in June 2024, he was also arrested by the CBI, becoming the first sitting chief minister to face such action.

Kejriwal’s legal battle continued until September, when the Supreme Court granted him bail after his plea was supported by the Delhi High Court.

With a mix of experienced leaders and newcomers, AAP is preparing for a tough battle in the 2025 elections, aiming to retain its stronghold in the national capital.
