In an election rally held in the Bhanupratappur assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made significant promises, expressing the Congress's commitment to the state's welfare if they retain power.

Gandhi announced an ambitious "KG to PG" initiative, assuring free education in government institutions from kindergarten to post-graduation, eliminating the financial burden on students.

Additionally, Gandhi pledged to provide Rs 4,000 annually to 'tendu' leaves collectors under the Rajiv Gandhi Protsahan Yojana if the Congress forms the government in the state after the upcoming elections. This announcement holds particular importance in the tribal-dominated Bastar region.

Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi questioned why he hesitates to conduct a caste census while frequently mentioning 'OBC' (other backward class) in his speeches. He vowed that a caste census would be conducted in the country if the Congress comes to power at the Centre.

Bhanupratappur is one of the 20 constituencies set for polling on November 7, marking the first phase of the Chhattisgarh elections, with the second phase scheduled for November 17.

Gandhi emphasized that the Congress is dedicated to the welfare of farmers, Dalits, laborers, and Adivasis, in contrast to the BJP-led Centre, which, he claimed, primarily serves the interests of a select few industrialists.

He highlighted that the key promises made by the Congress before the last assembly polls in Chhattisgarh have been successfully fulfilled, showcasing the party's commitment to the state.

Gandhi also expressed his disapproval of the use of 'vanvasi' instead of 'Adivasi' for tribals, considering it an insult to the Adivasis and an attack on their culture, history, and language.

During his address, Gandhi displayed compassion by attending to an incident where an individual appeared to have fainted, demonstrating his concern for the well-being of the people.
