No 4th time for Raman Singh, Congress set to return in Chhattisgarh after 15 years
Fighting to get a fourth term, Raman Singh contested the elections on the back of good governance and development in the state.
Fighting to get a fourth term, Raman Singh contested the elections on the back of good governance and development in the state. The BJP seems to be losing in its strongholds of Jagdalpur, Narayanpur and Dongargarh where Congress has surged ahead.
Raman Singh is leading Congress's Karuna Shukla, the niece of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in the Rajnandgaon seat. Chattisgarh, which has 90 seats, saw the BJP getting 49 seats and the Congress 39 in the last elections.
The results come as a boost for the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi as the country heads for the general elections in 2019.
The Mayawati-Ajit Jogi alliance didn't seem to impact the Congress's vote share as the Grand Old Party surged ahead of the ruling BJP in early leads. The exit polls had predicted a neck and neck battle for both the major contenders.
The Congress party is all set to get back the reins of the state which it lost to the BJP fifteen years ago.
