BSP, Janta Congress won’t do post-poll tie-ups: Mayawati

RAIPUR: After Janta Congress Chhattisgarh chief Ajit Jogi, in separate media statements over the past two days, hinted at being open to a post-poll alliance in Chhattisgarh, BSP chief Mayawati said on Friday that the BSP and Jogi’s party will not enter into any post-poll alliance with the Congress or the BJP, and would rather sit in the Opposition if they don’t get a majority.

“Our alliance will get a majority in Chhattisgarh on its own and we will form the government. If we do not get the numbers, we will sit in the Opposition rather than support the BJP or the Congress,” Mayawati said in a joint rally with Jogi in Arang assembly seat in Raipur.

Jogi in his speech also reiterated what Mayawati had said, and later told mediapersons that he has never made any statement regarding exploring a post poll-tie up with any other party. However, in at least two media statements over the past two days, Jogi was quoted as saying “we will cross the bridge when it comes” and “anything can happen as you cannot rule out anything in politics”, when asked on the possibility of a post-poll tie-up.


“We will not face such a situation only. We will get a majority — I will be CM and Mayawati will be the first Dalit PM,” Jogi said after the Arang rally.

Mayawati, at the rally, slammed the Congress for not giving Bhim Rao Ambedkar a Bharat Ratna and later told a TV channel that the Congress and the BJP were like “Saanpnath aur Naagnath”.
