New Delhi: The Congress unveiled its manifesto in poll-bound Chhattisgarh on Friday, promising complete farm loan waiver, increase in ration, minimum support price (MSP) for maize, sugarcane and soyabean, and enhancement in MSP of paddy if it comes to power.

It also promised immediate intervention for families affected by chit fund scams, prohibition in non-tribal areas, immediate absorption in government service of contractual workers, appointment of teachers and halving of electricity bills if it dislodges the BJP which has been in power for the past 15 years.

Just three days before the first phase of polling slated for Monday, the Congress finally put out its election manifesto – Jan Ghoshna Patra (public statement) – with its prime focus on youth, agrarian crisis, education.

The party, which has been out of power for three terms in the state, also found a place for cows in its manifesto and promised proper cow shelters for cows and improvement in livestock breed. At present, stray cattle is a common sight in the villages of Chhattisgarh as there is no dedicated place to feed them and milk production has declined steadily.
