Midway through counting in Odisha, where Naveen Patnaik is headed to return as CM for a fifth term, BJP seems to be holding on to its traditional stronghold in parliamentary constituencies of Western Odisha.

The party, which won one seat in Odisha could also make inroads into coastal Odisha. The BJP is leading in seven assembly seats out of 21 in Odisha.

In Bargarh, BJP’s Suresh Pujari was leading by 18166 votes in a parliamentary constituency where Naveen Patnaik is also contesting from a second assembly seat.


In Kalahandi where there was a visibly strong current for Narendra Modi, state party president Basant Panda, not the strongest candidate, is leading by 21000.

Jual Oram, benefitting from BJD mistakes, is leading in Sundargarh by 39716.

In Bhubaneswar which the BJP has never won, former IAS officer, Aparajita Sarangi is leading by 10104 votes. To Sarangi’s personal credit all six out of seven assembly seats within the LS constituency, the BJD aid in leadership.

Sambit Patra, BJP national spokesperson was leading by 4252 in a close fight with PInaki Misra.
BJP’s Nitish Ganga Deo is also leading in

Sambalpur, and Sangeeta Singh Deo, BJP’s candidate had a healthy of 21368 in Bolangir at 3pm in the afternoon.
