Assam Assembly Election 2021: Three-cornered fight in first poll post-NRC/CAA
Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday questioned if the weekly holiday in the state will change from Sunday to Friday if All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF)-Congress alliance comes to power.

Addressing an election rally in Tezpur, Sarma said: “I was seeing a video where AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal was saying the women must produce more child. Imagine, if such people come to power such will the state of affairs in Dispur. Ajmal also said once voted power they will reopen state-run Madrassas. Let him also answer if the weekly holiday in Assam will change from Sunday to Friday.”

Assam government brought a law which converted all the government-run Madrassas into Upper primary, high school and higher secondary school. AIUDF had stated once voted to power they would reopen all closed Madrassas.

“They may even say that girls will go to school with burqa (veil). We want students to become doctors and engineers,” he said.

The minister further said that the Congress party has surrendered to Ajmal.

“Ajmal is challenge to Assamese civilization. Congress is mum on these issues,” he said.
