While uncertainty continues in Assam over who would be the next chief minister, state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government formation process would take a couple of days as BJP president JP Nadda was in West Bengal.

On Tuesday, some newly elected MLAs met chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Sarma, who has emerged as a contender for the CM post. The BJP got seats on expected lines, Sarma told media persons. “Our president JP Nadda is in Kolkata today so there will be no meeting on Assam.”He added: “I feel the government formation will take a couple of days … a meeting of BJP’s parliamentary board will be held in a day or so and the government formation will take place in a couple of days.”

Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said the party’s parliamentary board would take the decision on the chief minister. “They (parliamentary board) may send an observer who will discuss with all the stakeholders and accordingly report back to the board. Accordingly, the board will take a decision,” he said.
