KOKRAJHAR: To strengthen women's role in the Assam assembly, 33% reservation has been made for them, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, adding they should this have right in full by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing rallies in Barpeta, Hojai and Dibrugarh for the upcoming assembly election, he said the special Parliamentary session on the women's quota law is set to start April 16. "We have discussed this with all political parties, though some are trying to obstruct it. The representation of those states that have worked to control the population will not be reduced."

"The people of Assam have made two things certain -- first, the BJP-NDA government will return for a third term in the state, and second, the Congress will continue its record of defeats," he added.

"On BJP Foundation Day, I extend my congratulations to every karyakarta (worker) and person connected with the BJP family. With the mantra of 'Nation First', we are dedicated to the service of Maa Bharati. Our resolve is to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat."

Accusing the Congress of never having worked with a long-term vision, Modi said, "It focuses on short-term gains, often driven by corruption. The BJP, on the other hand, works with a clear and long-term vision for development. The past decade laid the foundation of peace and stability in Assam, while the coming years will bring prosperity and self-reliance."
