Social media popularity doesn't win polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati: After BJP's victory, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that being popular on social media does not win elections.

Talking about the poor performance of Congress, he said: "Congress and its allies used the wrong phrase when they said 'three Gogois' were coming together. They should have said three indigenous people were coming together. This term antagonised other communities. While Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president, lost from Jorhat, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi lost from Khowang. It was a powerful combination. However, they failed to project themselves. Politics does not happen in reels and Instagram."

"This time, the Assam BJP unit would want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be present for the oath-taking ceremony. If his visit is confirmed, the dates of the oath-taking will be decided accordingly. That is why we may take two to three more days for discussions on oath-taking," he said.

"In Assam Congress, there is hardly anyone who understands politics. Congress made a big mistake by dragging the death of singer Zubeen Garg in the election. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited 'Zubeen Khetra' in Sonapur. However, someone in Congress should have advised her to visit Bhupen Hazarika Khetra and Swahid Smarak Kshetra at Boragaon."
