PM Modi rolls out big-ticket projects in Assam ahead of Assembly elections: Here’s everything he inaugurated

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and launched a series of key infrastructure, education and digital projects in Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, giving a major push to development initiatives in the Northeast.

Here’s everything he inaugurated during his Assam visit:

1. Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu

The PM inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a six-lane extradosed Prestressed Concrete (PSC) bridge built across the Brahmaputra at a cost of around Rs 3,030 crore. The bridge connects Guwahati with North Guwahati and is the first extradosed bridge in Northeast India. Designed for high seismic activity with base isolation technology and equipped with a Bridge Health Monitoring System, it is expected to cut travel time between the two sides to about seven minutes.

2. Emergency Landing Facility in Moran

Modi inaugurated the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran. The facility can be used by the Indian Air Force for fighter jet operations during emergencies and is aimed at strengthening air defence preparedness in the region while enhancing civil-military coordination.
