Himanta Biswa Sarma retains home, personnel and PWD portfolios; Ajanta Neog bags finance

Assam's new chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retained home, personnel and PWD portfolios, while alloting the finance portfolio to a woman legislator, Ajanta Neog. This is the first time in Assam's history that the post of the finance minister was alloted to a woman.

Neog was a minister in Congress government and joined the BJP before the recently concluded polls. She won from Golaghat seat. In the previous government Sarma held the education, health, finance and PWD department.

Keshab Mahanta, who is from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), BJP ally in the government is given health department while education department has gone to Ranuj Pegu.


Ashok Singhal who is the first time inclusion in the cabinet is given Guwahati development Department, urban development and Irrigation.

State unit BJP president who is now a minister is given Panchayat and rural development, public health engineering, food and civil supplies and consumer Affairs.

Pjush Hazarika who was junior minister in the previous council of minister is given Water resources, information and public relations, parliamentary affairs, Sports and Youth Welfare, cultural affairs, power and tourism.

From the earlier cabinet of Sarbananda Sonowal, Chandra Mohan Patowary continued to be transport, industries and commerce and skill development minister, Atul Bora the AGP president continued to hold the Agriculture department.
