Election Commission registers over 400 model code of conduct grievances through cVigil app

Since February 26 over 447 Model Code of conduct (MCC) grievances were registered through cVigil app in Assam, out of which 247 complaints were found to be correct, the Election Commission has said.

All these complaints were related to usage of posters/banner without permission, liquor and money distribution, property defacement, religious or communal speeches/messages, using vehicle or convoy without permission, it said.

The cVigil app was introduced by the EC to empower and encourage the citizens to report on any MCC violations promptly. The uniqueness of the app is that it only allows live photo/video with auto-location capture to ensure digital evidence for flying squads to act upon in a time-bound manner.


Meanwhile, between February 26 and March 16, cash amounting to Rs.12.17 crore and liquor worth Rs 17.82 crore have been confiscated.

Gold, silver ornaments valued at Rs.2.82 crores and narcotic drugs of Rs 27.13 crores market value have also been seized.

Moreover, cigarettes of foreign origin, poppy seeds, contraband tablets having market value of Rs.4.88 crore have also been seized during this period.

The Model code of conduct come into force on February 26 after EC announced poll dates for a five state and a union territory, including Assam.
