Cow has made a grand entry in Assam with opposition Congress promising to set up sheds in each district in its poll manifesto.

This comes after All India Congress Committee’s observer for Assam assembly elections, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel recently alleged that the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has been sponsoring cow trade across the border with Bangladesh even as BJP has been seeking votes in the name of cows .

“Meat export of Bangladesh has grown many folds in the last few years,” Baghel had said. The state government had in October last year decided to provide funding to gaushalas to fill up the gap in funds required to provide food to cows.

Presently there are 15 to 20 cow sheds in Assam and Guwahati Gaushala, a leading cow care centre in the state, incurs cost around Rs 45 lakh annually.
