Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday said several people were killed by insurgent groups during the 15 years of Congress rule in Assam, and that the last five years of BJP rule brought normalcy.

“ During 15 years of Congress rule, insurgents killed people. Security forces were killed. Congress did nothing to check the same. In last five years 2000 militants surrendered and mainstreamed. Bodo accord has brought peace and confidence,” Shah said at a poll rally.

The union home minister said the BJP government during the past five years made Assam "infiltration-free, agitation-free, curfew-free and corruption-free".

"There is not a single allegation of corruption against the BJP-led government in the last five years,” he said.

Shah addressed election rallies in Dhemaji, Majuli and Udalguri. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is seeking re-election from Majuli.

Attacking the Congress alliance with Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF, he said : “ Ajmal’s encroachers had encroached into Batadrava Than and Kaziranga National park, our government cleared the same. Now how will Rahul Gandhi save Assam from infiltration, when Ajmal is sitting in his lap.”
