Opposition parties in Assam led by Congress have formed a grand alliance.
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal stated that he has no desire to be the chief minister and want to work as a representative of the people of Dhubri.

In a Facebook post he said, “My view is that a specific news channel in Assam conducts an online survey on who will be the next Chief Minister of Assam. The channel has included my name in the possible list. Even after I have clarified that AIUDF team will never accept the post of Assam Chief Minister. I don't know if there is any political motive behind the publicity done like this. But I want to make it clear once again that I do not have the desire to become the Chief Minister”.

He added, “Expressing my affection and gratitude to the supporters of AIUDF party. Also want to express this, our party believes in the development of Assam and the unity of the people of Assam. We want to do that through the Mahajotbandhan. Our party is definitely due to the huge support of the people in the Mahajot government. Will be a partner. I will myself as a representative of the people of Dhubri, along with my constituency, I will serve Assam and North-East”.
