Dispur Election Results 2026 Live: Pradyut Bordoloi vs Mira Goswami showdown

Dispur, Assam’s political nerve centre, anchors the state’s governance and administration within the broader Guwahati urban sprawl. Designated as Assembly constituency No. 52 in Kamrup Metro district, it forms part of the Gauhati Lok Sabha seat and includes key urban pockets like Dispur, Beltola, and adjoining city neighbourhoods. As the capital region, it blends bureaucratic corridors with dense residential clusters, making it one of Assam’s most closely watched urban constituencies.

Pradyut Bordoloi (Bharatiya Janata Party) has secured a decisive win in Dispur with 1,03,337 votes, leading by 49,667 votes over Mira Borthakur Goswami (Indian National Congress), who finished with 53,670 votes, as all 20 rounds of EVM counting are complete.

2026: Urban core with administrative weight

Dispur reflects a highly urban, educated voter base, with literacy levels crossing 90% and a large concentration of government employees, professionals, and students. With around 2.69 lakh electors spread across more than 270 polling stations, the constituency represents a politically aware and civically engaged electorate.

Local concerns mirror its capital status—traffic congestion, urban infrastructure, waterlogging, and governance efficiency dominate voter priorities. Being at the administrative heart of Assam, expectations around delivery and planning tend to be sharper here than in many other seats.

Exit poll trends

Exit polls for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections suggest the broader political mood is tilting towards the BJP-led NDA, especially in urban regions like Guwahati and Dispur.

  • Axis My India projects 88–100 seats for the BJP and 24–36 for Congress
  • JVC estimates BJP at 88–101 seats, Congress at 23–33, with smaller parties marginal
  • Matrize places BJP between 85–95 seats, and Congress at 25–32
These projections point to a potential BJP advantage statewide, though the margins indicate a competitive contest. Urban constituencies like Dispur are expected to reflect this broader trend, while still being shaped by local governance issues.

At the same time, past elections in Assam have shown that exit polls can broadly indicate direction but not always precise outcomes.

Voting phases and overall turnout

The Assam Assembly elections were conducted in a single phase on April 9 across all 126 constituencies, with counting scheduled for May 4.

Assam recorded a voter turnout of 85.38%, its highest ever, signalling heightened political engagement.

  • Dispur recorded a turnout of 75.04%
While lower than the state average, this reflects steady participation typical of urban seats.

Electoral fortunes

Dispur has been a stronghold for the BJP in recent election cycles. The party’s Atul Bora secured a decisive victory in 2021, building on his 2016 win where he polled 1,98,378 votes (71.14% vote share), defeating Congress’s Akon Bora by a massive margin.

The BJP had wrested the seat from Congress dominance prior to 2016 and has since consolidated its position, giving it a structural advantage heading into 2026.

Key candidates

Pradyut Bordoloi (BJP) leads the contest against Mira Borthakur Goswami (Congress), with Ballav Patra (AAAP), Ayush Kumar Singh (Independent), Jayanta Kumar Das (Independent), and NOTA also in the fray.

Election dynamics

The 2026 Assam election has shaped into a direct contest between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led opposition, with regional and independent candidates adding layers to the race.

For the BJP, retaining Dispur is symbolically crucial—it represents not just an electoral seat, but control over the state’s administrative heart. The campaign leans on governance, continuity, and development.

The Congress, meanwhile, is framing the contest around urban stress points—rising costs, infrastructure gaps, and governance concerns—seeking to tap into any signs of urban dissatisfaction.

In Dispur, the battle is less about expansion and more about performance. Voters here are likely weighing administrative efficiency and delivery against broader political narratives.

A defining urban test

With exit polls indicating a BJP edge but not a landslide, Dispur stands out as a key indicator of how Assam’s urban, educated electorate is voting.

As the capital constituency, its verdict will signal whether the BJP’s grip over the state’s administrative core remains intact—or whether shifting urban expectations are beginning to reshape the political landscape.
