According to an official press release issued by the party’s Central Election Committee, the Congress has fielded the following candidates:

The announcement was made in a press note issued by AICC General Secretary K. C. Venugopal on March 20, 2026.
The Congress is leading an opposition alliance in the state that includes the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Assam Jatiya Parishad and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, while discussions with Raijor Dal are ongoing.

Among prominent candidates named in earlier lists are state party chief Gaurav Gogoi from Jorhat, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia from Nazira and former PCC president Ripun Bora from Barchalla.
The Congress has been out of power in Assam since 2016, with the BJP-led government seeking a third consecutive term. In the outgoing Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party has 64 MLAs, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have nine members, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) seven and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) three.
In the opposition camp, the Congress has 26 MLAs, the All India United Democratic Front has 15 members and the CPI(M) has one MLA, along with an Independent legislator.
