Congress rolls out fifth list, names seven candidates ahead of April 9 polls
According to the list issued by the All India Congress Committee, candidates include Joseph Hasda (Gossaigaon), Birkhang Boro (Dotma-ST), Rajat Kanti Saha (Bijni), Anchula Gwara Daimary (Bhergaon), Narayan Adhikari (Mazbat), Nirmal Langthasa (Haflong-ST) and Amar Chand Jain (Katigorah).

The latest list comes as the party steps up preparations in the final stretch of campaigning, amid heightened political activity and shifting alliances in the poll-bound state.
Polling for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4, 2026. The ruling BJP-led alliance, headed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is seeking to retain power after its victory in 2021. He is contesting from the Jalukbari constituency.

The Congress, under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, is aiming for a comeback, banking on anti-incumbency and opposition consolidation, though alliance dynamics remain fluid. Gogoi is contesting from the Jorhat seat.
