The second and third phase of polls will be held on April 1 and April 6 and counting of ballots will take place on May 2.
The congress led front has not projected any chief ministerial candidate. The AIUDF has earlier stated that its chief, Ajmal, would not be in the race for chief minister ship and the Congress could be the big brother in the alliance.
in the run up to polls the ruling BJP has been attacking the AIUDF and Congress, stating that Ajmal would be the chief minister if the alliance came to power.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that Congress and AIUDF are enemy of the state as both the parties are hellbent to bring in infiltrators from across the border.
In a election rally he urged upon the voters to discard these two parties and give their votes to the candidates of the BJP and its allies.
