A three-cornered fight among party Presidents in Pathacharkuchi

This seat which is witnessing a fight of party presidents will go to the polls on April 6. A campaign has been unleashed against Dass for being the "outsider" in the area.

Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass is caught in a three-cornered fight in Pathacharkuchi assembly seat.

Dass has changed his seat from Sarbhog to contest from this seat. He up against Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) executive president Pabindra Deka and Congress candidate Santanu Sarma. Sarma was the president of Barpeta district Congress committee.

This seat which is witnessing a fight of party presidents will go to the polls on April 6. A campaign has been unleashed against Dass for being the "outsider" in the area.


Deka has won from this constituency thrice. There are 1,43,509 voters in this constituency of which around 11,000 are minority voters.

Political observers feel Phani Pathak, who was working in constituency in the run-up to polls, moved to AJP after he was denied a BJP ticket. According to them, under Pathak's leadership, BJP had won almost all the Zilla Parishads and countered the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest which took place in 2019 and early 2020.

Even former Congress MLA Moloya Barman had joined BJP.

Tulakia Talukdar, a resident of Pathsala told ET, "Deka has been MLA for three terms. However, the constituency has not witnessed any substantial improvement."
