BJP candidates including Arunachal CM Pema Khandu set for smooth ride in assembly polls

Guwahati: As many as five candidates of BJP including Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu are likely not to face any contest and may win uncontested.

Arunachal Pradesh BJP stated in X, “Heartiest congratulations to HCM Shri Pema Khandu ji for being elected unopposed from 3- Mukto (ST) Assembly Constituency. We thank the people of Mukto constituency for their love and support and reposing their faith in the leader of the masses for his vision of #ViksitArunachal”.

A total of five candidates are likely to go uncontested, including Jikke Tako from Tali, Nyato Dukom from Taliha, Ratu Techi from Sagalee, and Mutchu Mithi from Roing Assembly constituencies.


Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, having served 30 years as MLA from Sagalee, opted to contest parliamentary elections this time.

BJP has put up candidates for all 60 members of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. The assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh will be held in the first phase on April 19.

The BJP won 41 seats in the 2019 Assembly polls, and subsequently, seven MLAs of other parties, including the Janata Dal-United, joined the BJP.

The BJP formed its first elected government in Arunachal Pradesh in 2019, even as Chief Minister Khandu had formed the BJP government in 2016 after he, along with several MLAs, left the Congress for the People's Party of Arunachal and then, joined the BJP.
