The RBI has raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%, its first rate hike since February 2023, amid rising inflation risks and global uncertainty. The Monetary Policy Committee has also shifted its stance from ‘neutral’ to ‘calibrated tightening’, with Governor Sanjay Malhotra indicating that near-term rate cuts are off the table. At the same time, the RBI raised its FY27 GDP growth forecast to 7.1% from 6.7%, while increasing its inflation projection to 5.2%.
