RBI to issue Rs 20 denomination notes with rupee symbol

RBI said it will soon issue bank notes of Rs 20 denomination with the rupee symbol and inset letter R in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 notes.

MUMBAI: Reserve Bank today said it will soon issue banknotes of Rs 20 denomination with the rupee symbol and inset letter R in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 notes.

The banknotes will bear signature of RBI governor D Subbarao and the year of printing 2012 will be on the reverse of these banknotes.

"The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 20 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi Series- 2005, issued earlier," RBI said in a statement.

RBI further clarified that all banknotes in the denomination of Rs 20 issued by it in the past will continue to be used as currency notes.
