RBI MPC meeting schedule for FY26 released; first meet set for April 7-9

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday announced the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting schedule for the next fiscal year, starting April 2025.

The rate-setting panel is set to have six meetings, with the first one scheduled for April 7-9, 2025.

The last MPC meeting was last held in February 2025 under the leadership f the new RBI boss Sanjay Malhotra, where India, for the first time, slashed its repo rate by a quarter points to 6.25%.

Dates of meetings of Monetary Policy Committee for 2025-26

• April 7, 8 and 9, 2025
• June 4, 5 and 6, 2025
• August 5, 6 and 7, 2025
• September 29, 30 and October 1, 2025
• December 3, 4 and 5, 2025
• February 4, 5 and 6, 2026

What is RBI MPC?

The MPC of the RBI is a six-member body responsible for setting India's key interest rates and formulating monetary policy to maintain price stability while keeping economic growth in mind.

The MPC meets every two months to decide on the repo rate, which influences loan and deposit rates across the economy. Its decisions are crucial for controlling inflation, stabilizing the currency, and ensuring financial stability.

Who are the members of the RBI MPC?

According to the RBI Act, three MPC members come from the central bank itself-typically the governor, the deputy governor in charge of the monetary policy and another officer chosen by the RBI board-and three more are appointed by the government. The panel is headed by the RBI governor. The six members are:
