The union government has extended Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Swaminathan Janakiraman's term for another two years with effect from June 26, 2026, the central bank announced Friday.

Kolkata: The union government has extended Reserve Bank of India deputy governor Swaminathan Janakiraman's term for another two years with effect from June 26, 2026, the central bank announced Friday.

Swaminathan J, the senior most deputy governor, initially assumed this role as central banker on June 26, 2023. He now handles key departments such as supervision, inspection, consumer education and protection, financial inclusion and human resource.

The executive MBA from National Institute of Business Management, Chennai was with State Bank of India for nearly three-and-half decades, prior to donning the hat of RBI deputy governor.
