NEW DELHI: Labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday said his ministry will soon move a Cabinet note on the employment-linked incentive (ELI) scheme that was announced in the budget.

"The ministry is finalising a Cabinet note on the ELI scheme and it will be soon placed before the Cabinet for approval," Mandaviya said while briefing the media on the work done by the ministry in the first 100 days of the Modi 3.0 government.

He said the ministry is working on a robust mechanism to ensure that the benefits of the ELI scheme reach the real beneficiaries.

The ELI scheme aims to create more than 20 million jobs in the country over two years. It will be implemented through the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), under the administrative control of the labour and employment ministry. Three employment-linked incentive schemes were announced in the budget this year as part of the prime minister's package of five schemes and initiatives to facilitate employment, skilling and other opportunities for some 41 million youth over a five-year period with a central outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore.

Meanwhile, labour secretary Sumita Dawra on Tuesday chaired an inter-ministerial meeting on the ELI scheme to nudge ministries and departments to create formal sector jobs. The ministry has appointed 1,300 doctors and nurses in the Employees' State Insurance Corporation and another 3,000 formal employment has been created under EPFO.
