Blue collar hiring sees significant uptick across job categories: QJobs data

The worst of the pandemic for the Indian job market could most likely be behind us, with recovery lying ahead. Blue collar hiring is seeing a significant uptick across job categories, especially in the delivery and retail segments.

There has been a 320% growth in overall new job openings added in the blue collar hiring market during Q2 (July-September) of FY22 compared to the previous quarter, with a concentration on the jobs in the retail and delivery segments, finds data from Qjobs, Quess Corp’s blue collar jobs app.

There are 5,40,000 active job openings on the platform, with the top job categories including delivery and driver, BPO/customer care, retail/counter sales, data entry/back office and field sales.


The job categories with the highest growth are delivery and driver, BPO/customer care, data entry/back office and field sales; all these categories have seen 350%+ growth in average new positions added monthly in Q2 FY22 compared to the previous quarter. Another category which has witnessed a significant uptick is retail/counter sales with 260% growth.

The platform has also witnessed emerging demand for new job categories like housekeeping and security/guard, in line with offices and facilities opening up.

“The recovery of the labour market in India is being led by the blue collared workforce, who were drastically affected by the pandemic. We are optimistic that this demand will shoot up further in the coming months due to festive hiring,” said Sekhar Garisa, president, emerging business and chief strategy officer, Quess Corp.

Candidate sign-ups are also growing month-on-month along with the increase in demand for the workforce category. Qjobs has facilitated upskilling initiatives for over 2 lakh candidates till date.
