Two soldiers and three miscreants injured in Manipur, machine gun recovered

Guwahati: Two soldiers sustained minor injuries when armed miscreants resorted to unprovoked firing in N Boljang in Manipur’s Imphal West District in the early hours of Thursday, according to defence sources. The condition of the soldiers is said to be stable.

“One INSAS light machine gun was recovered during the initial search. Additional columns inducted and operations are in progress,” defence sources said.

Three miscreants were injured. A police official said that three miscreants were injured in the firing in the N Boljang in Manipur’s Imphal West District.


Meanwhile, Assam Rifles troopers recovered a highly-explosive mortar bomb in Manipur's Imphal East district on Thursday during a combing operation. The operation was jointly conducted by the Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police Commando in the Mongjam foothills. Following the recovery of the 01 X 51 mm mortar bomb, a search operation was underway in the area for other arms and ammunition, according to a defence spokesperson.

In yet another incident, three people were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) placed in a vehicle exploded at Kwakta, Bishnupur district on Wednesday night. The injured were shifted to the Bishnupur district hospital. One of them is said to be in a critical condition.

Security forces also dismantled a bunker reportedly used by militants in the Leimakhong area of Imphal West district.

Intermittent firings between rival militant outfits were also reported from two places in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

Search operations were also conducted to recover the arms and ammunition from miscreants and arrest those involved in violence.
