Manipur govt bans sale, use of walkie-talkies in Imphal to prevent unrest

The Manipur government issued prohibitory orders against unauthorised sale and usage of Walkie-Talkie sets in the whole of Imphal West district to prevent the spread of rumours and unrest among the public.

The Manipur government issued prohibitory orders against unauthorised sale and usage of walkie-talkies sets in the whole of Imphal West district to prevent the spread of rumours and unrest among the public.

The order signed by district magistrate Imphal West, Th Kirankumar, stated that SP Imphal West vide letter No 10/MISC/SP-IW/RIOT/2023/3362 dated June 13, submitted a report regarding the rampant use of walkie-talkiess and Personal Mobile Radio (PMR) by miscreants for spreading rumour and creating unrest among the public.

Prohibitory Orders under section 144 of Cr.P.C. 1973 was promulgated in the district with effect from 7 pm of May 3 based on the inputs of SP, Imphal West while assessment of the situation through other sources indicates that there is likelihood of imminent danger to human lives and properties that will ultimately result into breach of peace and public tranquillity or a riot, or an affray in the area, it mentioned.


Such disturbances may result in serious breach of peace, public tranquillity and danger to human lives and properties, it stated.
