Even as he asserted that Nawaz Sharif was in the "driving seat" in his country, Pakistan high commissioner to India Abdul Basit has said the Pakistani army has an important role to play in Islamabad's India policy .

In an interview to TOI, Basit said it would be "incorrect" to expect that the Pakistani army would not have a role on India-related issues.The High Commissioner qualified his remark by saying that even India could not have a Pakistan policy without consulting its armed forces.

In a sign that Pakistan is not going to concede any ground on Kashmir, and even as he underlined the significance of talks, Basit said Islamabad did not want to have a dialogue on the issue "just for the heck of it". He said, “We want concrete results.It's time to move from symbolism to substance.“
