Sudarshan Venu to tie the knot

CHENNAI: Sudarshan Venu, the 24-year-old son of TVS Motor and Sundaram Clayton CMD Venu Srinivasan and Tafe chairman & CEO Mallika Srinivasan, is all set to tie the knot. According to sources, Sudarshan is engaged to Tara, granddaughter of the late Dr D Jayavarthanavelu of Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW).

The Coimbatore-based LMW, established in 1962, is a textile machinery major and the Jayavarthanavelus are a respected business family in Tamil Nadu. Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, the current CMD of LMW, is Tara's uncle and son of the late Dr D Jayavarthanavelu. The wedding is expected sometime in the first week of September.

Tara is daughter of Coimbatore industrialist Ravi Sam and Uttara, daughter of Dr D Jayavarthanavelu. Ravi Sam owns steel (Adwaith Lakshmi Industries), paints (Titan Paints & Chemicals and Titan HMG Paints) and spinning (Adwaith Textiles) companies and has just been elected CII's Tamil Nadu state council chairman.

Sudarshan Venu has been vice-president at TVS Motor Company since December 2011 and its whole-time director since February 2013. He underwent hands-on training at the die casting division of Sundaram Clayton and TVS and has been a non-executive and non-independent director of Sundaram Clayton since September 2011.

Sudarshan graduated with honours in the Jerome Fisher Programme in management and technology from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a BS in mechanical engineering from the School of Engineering and BS in economics from Wharton School.

Besides, he holds a master's degree in international technology management from Warwick Manufacturing Group attached to Warwick University, UK. Sudarshan's wedding will come three years after the June 2011 wedding of his sister Lakshmi and Rohan Murty, son of Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy.
