NEW DELHI: Wellness company Stepathlon Lifestyle says more than 180,000 ‘stepathletes’ from 500 companies have signed up for its ’100 day race’ fitness initiative since its launch three years ago.

The virtual race, which is the cornerstone programme of Stepathlon, motivates individuals to achieve a daily 10,000-step goal using principles of gamification and engagement.

The fourth edition of the race commenced on September 2.

“At Stepathlon, we have always believed that the secret to success is to become healthier and happier,” said CEO Ravi Krishnan. “As we continue with our fourth annual race, we reinforce our commitment towards building an inclusive wellness platform – one that enables individuals to achieve their health goals, promotes mental well-being and encourages an active lifestyle.”

Stepathlon said the Vedanta Group has emerged as the largest corporate participant in the race.

“Vedanta is participating for the second consecutive year in the Stepathlon initiative, engaging over 5,400 employees across its global locations,” said Tom Albanese, CEO at Vedanta Resources.

Companies such as Tata Steel, Tata Power, HDFC Bank, Godrej Properties, United Breweries, DHL, Marico, The Park Hotels, Raheja Universal, Aditya Birla Financial Services and Mahindra & Mahindra are encouraging employees to participate in the race as part of their employee wellness initiative.

This year’s race will also participation from Schneider Electric, Adani Group, Pidilite, Apollo Hospitals, Castrol, Standard Chartered, GVK and Australian logistics firm Linfox.

Stepathlon said participation in the race has jumped 250% since launch. The geographic reach of the race this year has expanded to 54 countries.

This year, Stepathlon is also conducting a scientific mental health study in association with epidemiologist Maximilian de Courten. The study will help corroborate the impact of physical activity on mental well-being.
