Change adverse culture hindering innovative HR practices: Study

42 per cent said it was crucial in securing the best talent and a further third that it was key in hiring niche or hard to find talent (33 per cent).

NEW DELHI: HR professionals in India gave high value to innovation, but blamed a "change adverse corporate culture" as the main barrier hindering the adoption of more market leading and cutting edge innovative practices, says a global study.

According to the global study, carried out by Futurestep - a Korn/Ferry company, innovation plays a very important part in attracting and retaining top talent, but said there are significant barriers to adopting 'best practice' methods in India.

The survey, which covered recruitment and talent management professionals from eight countries, admitted that using innovative methods in recruitment was key to winning the war for talent.

42 per cent said it was crucial in securing the best talent and a further third that it was key in hiring niche or hard to find talent (33 per cent).

As per the survey, despite innovation budgets being available for recruitment and talent management in India, over a third (36 per cent) of professionals felt that current methods used are "sufficient".

"Innovation in attracting and retaining top talent is highly valued in India and yet, talent and recruitment professionals are faced with fundamental barriers which could prevent them from attracting global talent", Futurestep India Managing Director Sreenivasa R Yadavilli said.

Yadavilli further said organisations need to change their outlook on transforming the way they communicate with potential and current employees if they are going to attract and keep the best people.

"With global talent migration ever increasing, Indian companies are not just competing with each other, but with businesses across the globe, many of which are more open to innovative methods, and therefore using them successfully," he said.

The study further said that online communities and online talent communities would be the most influential recruitment methods in the future - followed by mobile campaigns.
