Throughout the last decade, only one Indian has maintained their position at the very top of Hurun’s Global Rich list. A quick look at the 2014, 2019 and 2023 editions of the list shows that Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has reigned supreme among all other Indians.

Back in 2014, Ambani ranked #1 in India with a wealth of $18 billion but ranked 41st globally. In 2019, Ambani retained the top spot in India but climbed to the 9th rank globally with a wealth of $54 billion.

Ambani emerged as the richest Indian yet again in 2023, with a wealth of $82 billion.

In the last ten years, Ambani’s wealth has grown by over 350%.

With a global rank of 437 in 2014, fellow businessman Gautam Adani & family ranked second richest in India in 2023 and 23rd globally.

Adani saw his wealth climb 1,225% in the last ten years.

Ambani, who is Asia’s richest individual, was the only Indian to feature in the top 10 of 2023 edition.

Data shows that over the last five years, Indian billionaires in the list added around $360 billion to their cumulative wealth, which is equivalent to Hong Kong’s GDP.

Among all the billionaires in the world, China and USA have around 53%. India takes the third spot with 187 billionaires, down 28.
