2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List: Jeff Bezos lost more wealth than Adani, Ambani combined

US billionaire Jeff Bezos lost most wealth in dollar terms over the last year, according to the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List released on Wednesday. The founder of e-commerce marketplace Amazon lost $70 billion in personal wealth, which is greater than the combined loss suffered by Indian billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, a media release published by India Hurun said.

Gautam Adani & family lost $ 28 billion in personal wealth while Mukesh Ambani lost $21 billion, the release claimed.

2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List puts Bezos at the top of the biggest losers' list while placing Adani and Ambani in 6th and 7th places, respectively.

Bezos’ wealth stands at $118 billion while that of Adani and Ambani at $53 billion and $82 billion.

Adani is the Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group and is a first-generation entrepreneur. Adani Group is a diversified group which has business interests in power, ports, airports, cement, green energy and others.

Meanwhile, Ambani is the Chairman & Managing Director of Reliance Industries, which is the largest private company in India.

In terms of the number of billionaires who have added $1 billion or more over the last year, India occupies sixth rank in the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List.

The list also added 176 new faces from 18 industries and 99 cities. India added 16 billionaires and occupied the third spot, comfortably ahead of Italy which added 9 billionaires in this year’s list.

The richest new entrant from India, Rekha Rakesh Jhunjhunwala & family, topped the list of 16 new Indian entrants in the 2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List.

“Over the last five years, Indian billionaires added circa $360 billion to their cumulative wealth – this is equivalent to Hong Kong’s GDP,” the release said.

Moreover, India also ranks top 10 in terms of the number of billionaires in most of the important global industries. “India needs to catch up on sectors such as Investments and Media and Entertainment,” the release said.
