Bengaluru woman viral video

A 20-year-old woman from Bengaluru recently shared her experience of being rejected for a flat due to her age, sparking both sympathy and criticism on social media. Naina, who had been looking for an apartment in the city, was turned down by a potential landlord after visiting a flat she liked. In an attempt to highlight her strengths as a flatmate, Naina created a PowerPoint presentation to showcase her best qualities.

The Rejection and Response

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Naina explained how she found a "really pretty house" while apartment hunting. Everything seemed fine until she was rejected for being too young. "So I’ve created a PPT to tell you all, anyone looking for a flatmate, that I am probably the best flatmate you could find," she shared in the video. Her presentation highlighted her no-smoking, no-drinking lifestyle and her preference for minimal interference in others' lives.

However, Naina’s video soon became a target for online trolling. Users on X mocked her age and questioned her apartment-hunting approach. One user remarked, "Aaj kal bacche college nahi jate kya? Seedha Kam pakad rahe hai and that too in Bangalore?" (Are kids not going to college these days? Do they start working straight out of school, that too in Bangalore?).

Backlash Over Social Media Activity

The situation worsened as some social media users dug deeper into Naina’s online activity. One user pointed out how Naina had been posting about flats and flatmates for months, suggesting she might be a property dealer. "Every day on Twitter this girl is either looking for flats or looking for roommates. I think she is just a property dealer," wrote Arnav Gupta, sharing screenshots of Naina’s posts from as early as November 2023.

Naina denied these claims, asserting that she had finally found a flat and would cease posting about her search. Despite this, the incident sparked a wider debate about ageism and the challenges young people face in securing housing in Bengaluru.

An Apology and Reflection

In response to the backlash, Naina posted another video, apologizing for her earlier mockery of millennials and acknowledging how it felt to be discriminated against based on age. "Karma in a b****," she said in the video, reflecting on the situation with a sense of humor.
