Bengaluru techie suicide: Atul Subhash's estranged wife Nikita Singhania, in-laws arrested
Five days after the death of 34-year-old Atul Subhash, an automobile firm executive, Bengaluru police arrested his wife, her mother, and younger brother in connection with the case. The arrested individuals—Nikita Singhania (29), Nisha Singhania, and Anurag Singhania (27)—were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days following their detention. They were produced before a magistrate early Sunday morning. Another accused, Sushil Singhania, aged above 70, is also mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR), a TOI report stated. Police are still verifying his role in the case.

How Nikita and her family were arrested

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Shivakumar Gunare stated that Nikita was detained in Gurugram, Haryana, on Saturday morning. Simultaneously, Nisha and Anurag were detained in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Nikita was taken into custody near Hongkong Bazar Road, Gurugram, around 9 a.m. She had been staying in a paying guest accommodation in Phase 2, Rail Vihar, Gurugram. Nisha and Anurag were detained near Hotel Rameshwaram Inn in Jhunsi, Allahabad.

The trio was flown to Bengaluru the same day, arriving at 10:30 p.m. They underwent medical testing and were presented at the magistrate's residence at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Following their court appearance, they were sent to Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.

Atul Subhash's Suicide Case

Atul's death has drawn significant public attention. A case of abetment to suicide under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 108 (3) and (5) was registered with the Marathahalli police based on a complaint filed by Atul’s younger brother, Bikas Kumar, on December 9.

Police investigations revealed a four-page handwritten death note and 44 additional pages typed on a computer, amounting to 48 pages in total. A 90-minute video was also discovered. Senior police officials clarified that all documents and devices were seized from Atul’s flat in Munekollala and sealed as evidence, dispelling rumors that the Google Drive link to the note had gone missing.

Nikita Denies Allegations of Harassment

During interrogation, Nikita denied allegations of harassment, claiming instead that she had been harassed by Atul. She stated she had been living apart from him for nearly three years. “If I harassed him for money, why would I stay away from him?” she reportedly said.

DCP Gunare remarked, “We will investigate the case thoroughly and file a chargesheet in court if the allegations made by Atul are proved.”

Police are also analyzing Atul’s internet search history, though a senior officer stated, “We are not yet sure what exactly he searched for or for how long. The seized materials will be sent to the forensic sciences laboratory for analysis, and the findings will be submitted to the court.”
