Bullish on Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Whirlpool: Amit Khurana

In a chat with ET Now, Amit Khurana, Co-Head Equities & HoR, Dolat Capital shares his views on consumer discretionary and auto space.

ET Now: While we have spoken about the key movers in the session I just want to get your view on what you are doing with the defensives right now especially an HUL which have run up quite consistently not as actively as the cyclical but still the stock is at 625 now after remaining below 600 for a long time, what is your call on the stock?

Amit Khurana: Well we still have a positive bias on overall consumer space but within the consumer, we actually prefer the discretionary spends on the consumer more than the consumer staples like HUL or ITC. So our preference is right now figured more around the consumer discretionary players versus staples.

ET Now: Consumer discretionary I would imagine that you are essentially focusing on autos is it the four wheelers or the two wheelers that you are?

Amit Khurana: While we are more focused actually on both in that segment. So we like Maruti in that segment and we also like Bajaj Auto wherein we believe that the discount to the leader, the hero stock is probably a little unjustified at this stage and we believe that the next couple of quarters will show a much better traction of volumes for Bajaj Auto. On the consumer discretionary we actually like Whirlpool in the midcap space and Relaxo wherein we believe that the margin gain will become much more evident over the next few quarters. We also prefer some of the players which are more as I said discretionary in nature so that is how we are preferring to play this around this time.
