Sensex plunges 600 points from day's high as Indo-Pak tensions flare up

All sectoral indices slipped more than 1 per cent from day's high before recovering a bit.

NEW DELHI: Sensex swung over 600 points in Wednesday's session on signs of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan Air Force's F-16 that violated Indian air space was shot down in Indian retaliatory fire 3KM within Pakistan territory in Lam valley, Nowshera sector, ANI reported.

From day's high of 36,371.11, Sensex touched 35,735.33 on the downside by 12:15 pm.


Around 12:20 pm, the Sensex was 113 points, or 0.31 per cent, down at 35,861, while the Nifty was 46 points, or 0.42 per cent, down at 10,790.

All sectoral indices slipped more than 1 per cent from day's high before recovering a bit. The Nifty bank index slipped over 350 points from day's high. It was 105 points down at 26,847 around 12:20 pm.

Bajaj Auto, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank and Sun Pharma were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.
