Sensex, Nifty open on a cautious note; Rcom tanks 8%

NEW DELHI: Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty opened on a cautious note on Tuesday following Asian cues. The BSE was down 30 points, or 0.09 per cent, at 33,699 at around 9.25 am (IST), while NSE Nifty index was down 10.35 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 10,388.35 at around the same time.

As many as 29 stocks in the Nifty index were trading in red in early trade with NTPC falling the most - 1.29 per cent, followed by Power Grid (down 1.12 per cent), ONGC (down 1.09 per cent), ITC (down 0.85 per cent) and BPCL (down 0.78 per cent).

On the other hand, UPL, HUL, Adani Ports, Ambuja Cements and Axis Bank were up between 0.60 per cen and 1.10 per cent.

Shares of Reliance Communications tanked over 8 per cent on BSE after the company issued a clarification to the stock exchanges with regard to media news of China development bank filing insolvency case against the company.

Foreign portfolio investors stood net buyers in domestic equity markets on Monday and bought shares worth Rs 107.55 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 4,564.89 crore and Rs 4,457.34 crore, respectively, according to data available with NSDL.
