NEW DELHI: Shares of State Bank of India (number of shares traded: 1.77 crore), Punjab National Bank (1.69 crore), Vedanta Ltd (1.23 crore), Ashok Leyland (1.21 crore), ICICI Bank (1.20 crore) and SAIL (0.97 crore) stood as the most traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

Equity benchmarks ended Tuesday's session in the negative territory, breaking the three-session winning streak, owing to selling across sectors.

The Nifty50 index closed 82 points down at 10,240, while the 30-share Sensex closed Tuesday's session 228 points down at 33,228.

With a gain of nearly 3 per cent, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories stood as the top gainer in the Nifty50 index. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, GAIL (India) and Lupin.

Among the losers, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation cracked dover 4 per cent. Bharti Infratel, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Coal India, UPL, Eicher Motors, Hero MotoCorp and Indian Oil Corporation declined over 2 per cent.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 12 closed the day in the green, while 38 in the red.
