Markets Now: FMCG stocks sag; United Breweries sinks 3%

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 39 were in the red.
NEW YEAR: FMCG stocks United Breweries (down 3.03 per cent), Jubilant Foodworks (down 2.63 per cent) and United Spirits (down 2.06 per cent) declined over 2 per cent during Friday's trade.

Stocks such as Marico (down 1.92 per cent), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (down 1.37 per cent), Tata Global Beverages (down 1.24 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (down 0.86 per cent), Emami (down 0.77 per cent), ITC (down 0.63 per cent) and Hindustan Unilever (down 0.45 per cent) were also trading in the negative territory around that time.

The Nifty FMCG index was 0.55 per cent down at 26,586 around 02:30 pm (IST) on Friday.


However, shares of Dabur India (up 1.03 per cent), Godrej Consumer Products (up 0.83 per cent), Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Healthcare (up 0.46 per cent), Godrej Industries (up 0.41 per cent) and Britannia Industries (up 0.38 per cent) were up in the FMCG index.

Equity markets were down in the absence of any definite global cue as most of the Asian markets were closed on Lunar New Year holidays.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 76 points down at 10,469, while the BSE Sensex was 239 points down at 34,059.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 11 were trading in the green, while 39 were in the red.
