Market Now: Stocks that surged up to 20% intraday

NEW DELHI: Shares of Hester Biosciences (up 20 per cent), JBM Auto (up 18.82 per cent), Vishnu Chemicals (up 16.85 per cent), Oriental Carbon (up 16 per cent), Hindustan Composites (up 14.67 per cent), Zen Technologies (up 12.56 per cent) and JVL Agro Industries (up 12.34 per cent) zoomed up to 20 per cent on BSE in Thursday's trade.

Benchmark BSE Sensex was trading above 31,300 in the afternoon trade, while NSE Nifty index was above 9,650 mark.

Domestic equity markets opened in green on Thursday following mixed Asian cues and also reacted to the US Fed minutes results that showed no sign of interest rate increase in anytime soon.

PSU banks, realty, FMCG and auto stocks retained the momentum, helping the market to stay firm.

Shares of State Bank of India (Rs 274.32 crore), ITC (Rs 246.74 crore), RIL (Rs 243.38 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 197.43 crore), HDFC (Rs 192.77 crore), Lupin (Rs 158.36 crore), ICICI Bank (Rs 149.94 crore) and Punjab National Bank (Rs 147.94 crore) stood among most active stocks in terms of value on NSE.

Over 80 stocks, including Andhra Sugars, Archidply Industries, Ashok Leyland and Asian Granito hit their fresh 52-week high on NSE.

Benchmark Nifty50 index was 0.46 per cent up at 9,681.95, while the 30-share Sensex was 0.50 per cent up at 31,401.09 around 1.25 pm (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 35 stocks were trading in green, while 16 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 886 stocks were declining whereas 1,623 stocks were trading in green.
