Market Now: NTPC, DLF most active stocks in terms of volume
NEW DELHI: Shares of NTPC (number of shares traded: 0.35 crore) were trading as the most active stock in terms of volume on NSE in Tuesday's trade on reports that the government would kick off 412 million shares offer for sale (OFS) today.

NTPC was followed by DLF (0.22 crore), Bank of Baroda (0.16 crore), Vedanta (0.15 crore), Hindustan Petroleum (0.09 crore), Infosys (0.09 crore), PowerGrid (0.08 crore), Tata Power (0.07 crore), State Bank of India (0.07 crore), Hindalco Industries(0.06 crore), Indian Oil Corp (0.06 crore) and ICICI Bank (0.06 crore).

Benchmark indices opened in the negative territory, taking cues from the weak global trend.

Sensex fell over 180 points, while Nifty slipped below 9,900 in the morning trade.

Barring Nifty Metal, all other sectoral indices were in red on NSE.

In the Nifty pack, NTPC, Bank of Baroda, Sun Pharma, Indiabulls Housing Finance, HDFC and Eicher Motors declined over 1 per cent.

On the contrary, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, Vedanta and Tata Steel were gaining.

Nifty50 index was trading 55 points lower at 9,858, while the 30-share Sensex was 167 points down at 31,583 around 9.45 am(IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 8 stocks were trading in green, while 43 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 646 stocks were advancing whereas 992 stocks were lagging.
