Market Now: BSE Smallcap index outpaces benchmark Sensex

NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex in afternoon trade on Wednesday.

After hitting a fresh record highs of 19,209.85, the S&P BSE Smallcap index was trading 86 points up at 19,198, while Sensex was 41 points up at 34,051 around 12.55 pm (IST). The NSE Nifty50 index was 3 points up at 10,535.

Shares of Castex Technologies (up 18.90 per cent), 3i Infotech (up 17.02 per cent), Madhucon Projects (up 11.70 per cent) and Lakshmi Energy & Foods (up 10.66 per cent) surged over 10 per cent.


On the other hand, Godawari Power & Ispat (up 9.99 per cent), Tanla Solutions (up 9.41 per cent), Alicon Castalloy (up 9.12 per cent), GeeCee Ventures (up 8.94 per cent) and Forbes & Company (up 8.45 per cent) advanced over 8 per cent.

Meanwhile, Aurionpro Solutions (down 5.87 per cent), Chaman Lal Setia Exports (down 5 per cent), Bombay Rayon Fashions (down 4.99 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Ruchi Soya Industries (down 4.64 per cent) and Welspun Enterprises (down 4.61 per cent) declined up to 5 per cent.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 23 were trading in the green, while 26 were in the red.

Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Lab, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel and NTPC were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.

On the contrary, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Hero MotoCorp and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation were among the top losers.
